Congressman Peters to Host Public Forum on 2/20

On Monday, February 20th from 6:30-8:00 pm at Oakland Community College's Orchard Ridge Campus, Congressman Gary Peters will host a public forum with officials from the newly formed Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This event will provide a public venue for Michigan residents to learn about how this new federal agency helps families deal with unfair or abusive credit card, mortgage or banking practices.  Below you will find the info for the event as well as a flyer attached to this email.

Pivotal Decisions for the future Bloomfield Hills High School

Bloomfield Hills High School opens in the fall of 2013.  Whether it exists in one up-to-date building or two old buildings will be determined by our community in one final bond vote.  

The details of this bond proposal will be determined by the Board of Education at the Thursday, February 16 Board of Education meeting.

Today in the Michigan State House Republicans are expected to push through legislation (House Bill 5187) that changes Michigan county redistricting law to allow just one county to redo their redistricting process – Oakland.

Kevin Hrit Meets With the Birmingham Bloomfield Dems

Kevin Hrit, Political Organizing Director for the Michigan Democratic Party, met with the Birmingham Dems on November 9th for an informative discussion.

Kevin shared his goals to develop a program that focuses on "Community." People invest in such things as schools, public safety, libraries, and the infrastructure to define "Community." People support the "Community" by overwhelmingly voting for millage proposals. Promoting "Community" increases jobs and improves the economy.

Gary Peters to run in new MI-14 district

With the Republican Party currently having complete control over the legislature, executive and judicial branches of the Michigan state government, having the redistricting process turn into a hopelessly gerrymandered mess was inevitable.

For those of us in the Birmingham/Bloomfield area, the most obvious fallout of this at the U.S. Congressional level is that MI-09, represented by Gary Peters for the past 3 years, is about to be sliced up into several new districts.
